Whose money is it

No fund on this map discloses its limited partners. But most of that money is public, held by state pension funds, and every state pension fund answers to a public-records law. Starting September 13, 2026 we filed that request with 46 states ourselves. Six states limit requests to their own residents; we filed in two of them, Kentucky and Virginia, as a news organization. If you live in one of the six, this page writes the request for you. What the pensions hold shows what has come back so far.

Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia. Every other state's fund has our request. Answers are published on What the pensions hold as they come in.

What happens next

Most statutes require an acknowledgment within a few working days and a response within a few weeks. Expect some records to be withheld: many states exempt the details of private-equity partnership agreements, though commitment amounts and fund names are usually public. If you receive a response, forward it to patrickallers@gmail.com; a documented LP link is worth more than any inference on this map, and it will be published on What the pensions hold with credit if you want it. The Sources page explains what the map can and cannot see.
